Dr. Sorin completed extensive training at New York University Medical Center with leading experts in sinus and nasal surgery achieving board certification. He went on to acquire more advanced techniques at the Paparella Ear, Head and Neck Institute in the management of chronic sinus conditions, facial pain, nasal polyps, nasal obstruction, sinus and pituitary skull base tumors. He is a member of the prestigious Americal Rhinologic Society, devoted to the management of sinus and nasal disorders and the treatment of environmental allergies. Favoring a conservative approach, many patients referred to Dr. Sorin for chronic sinus conditions, second opinions or following previously failed sinus or nasal surgery attain success by conservative medical measures.

A broad based approach includes direct evaluation with assessment regarding the role of inflammation or allergies. Testing for environmental allergies is commonly performed as part of an initial visit and effective treatment can be started by self-administration of oral sublingual immunotherapy at home – instead of a more traditional practice of weekly shots requiring frequent office visits.

For patients with advanced or resistant diseases requiring surgery, Dr. Sorin offers the full range of alternatives, including open nasal surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery with use of 3-D navigation in-office options when appropriate, which do not require general anesthesia. Dr. Sorin was one of the first surgeons in the region to complete specific training with certification in balloon sinuplasty and has been performing sinus balloon procedures since their inception and FDA approval in 2005. His experience enabled him to qualify as part of the first wave of surgeons both locally and nationally to perform this less invasive technique in the office under mild sedation, once it was approved by the FDA in 2007 as a safe and effective alternative to procedures performed in operating rooms under general anesthesia.

Comprehensive testing and minor surgical procedures that are performed in the office include:

  • Direct evaluation of the nose by nasal endoscopy
  • Allergy testing and home-based sublingual treatment
  • Correction of disorders of nasal bleeding
  • Turbinate reduction to enhance nasal breathing
  • Culture and biopsies
  • Balloon Sinuplasty for chronic sinusitis, facial pain or pressure.
